作为现在西方传统奇幻的巅峰作，默大多次表示出对《冰与火》的推崇。看到22里南岭游侠的誓言我不敬想到，这不就是《冰与火》的守夜人(一群为抵抗外族发誓永远守护长城的卫士)的设定吗。也许是巧合，也许是默大对马丁的致敬。且看誓言内容：
 

南岭游侠版：
“在南陵有群人，他们和你一样，流着高贵的凤凰之血^那是南方对‘义’ 之血脉的敬称，与南陵诸封国的国主，同属羽族最高贵的凤之族裔。为了捍卫这 份珍贵的信念之血，也为扫除世上的不公不义，他们发誓不娶妻、不荫子、不封爵、 不蓄财，荣辱休止，身无长物，终生不渝地奉行这个‘义’字，直到合眼。”

 

守夜人版：
长夜将至，我从今开始守望，至死方休。我将不娶妻、不封地、不生子。我将不戴宝冠，不争荣宠。我将尽忠职守，生死於斯。我是黑暗中的利剑，长城中的守卫。
我是抵御寒冷的烈焰，破晓时分的光线，唤醒死者的号角，守护王国的铁卫。我将生命与荣耀献给守夜人，今夜如此，夜夜皆然。
